Why Choose This Course
- Musician First, Pianist Second — We focus on growing you as a complete musician - with theory, ear training, transcription, rhythm, and notation. Piano skills become a natural byproduct of musical understanding.
- Learn Everything by Ear — No memorization. You'll know the sixth of Bb major is G, hear it's a major sixth, and understand how it relates to surrounding notes - all by ear, applied to real songs.
- Music Factory: Deep Song Analysis — Our signature transcription class where you analyze entire songs - notation, chord logic, rhythm structure. You'll understand WHY composers chose each chord, not just WHAT they played.
- Music Gym: 3D Practice System — Dedicated exercises targeting ears, technique, and theory. Structured practice that builds genuine skill, not just muscle memory.
- Modular Learning Pathways — 3-4 lesson modules with clear goals: singing & playing, chord inversions, gospel music, seasonal songs. You always know exactly what you're working toward.
- Rhythm Theory Included — Unlike typical courses, we teach rhythm as theory - a complete system often missing from music education. Learn Konnakol, Afro-Cuban patterns, and complex metres.
- Graded Certificate Program — This is serious music education. Weekly homework, personalized feedback, grading, and exams. For students who want to become musicians, not hobbyists.
- HD Recordings + Live Notes — Every class recorded in HD quality. Plus handwritten notes, notation, supplementary resources, and practice tracks - lesson after lesson.
- Flexible Time Zones & Scheduling — Weekday mornings, evenings after work, or weekend slots. Choose from 32, 40, 50, or 65-hour packages over a 6-month semester that fits your schedule.

How Our Intermediate & Advanced Piano Program Works
In this video, Jason explains our unique approach to intermediate and advanced piano training. We focus on growing you as a musician first – through theory, ear training, transcription, rhythm, and notation. Piano skills naturally follow. You'll learn everything by ear, bring your own songs to transcribe, and work across four specialized classrooms: Modular Piano (topic-focused lessons), Music Gym (3D exercises), Theory & Ear Training (notation and rhythm theory), and Music Factory (our signature deep transcription class). This isn't a hobby course – it's a graded certificate program with weekly homework, personalized feedback, and HD recordings of every lesson. Choose from flexible time zones and 32/40/50/65 hour packages over a 6-month semester. No age cap. For students who want to become musicians.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is this program for? — This is for intermediate and advanced piano students who want to grow as complete musicians. Whether you've studied classical piano (Trinity/ABRSM), are a self-taught player, or have completed foundation-level training elsewhere – if you want to understand music theory by ear, transcribe songs, master rhythm, and go deeper than just playing notes, this program is for you. No age cap. We've trained students from teenagers to 75+.
- What makes this different from other piano courses? — We focus on growing you as a musician first – the piano becomes a byproduct. Instead of just memorizing scales and chords, you'll learn everything by ear. You'll know the sixth of Bb major is G, hear it's a major sixth, and understand how it relates to surrounding notes – all applied to real songs. We use four specialized classrooms: Modular Piano (focused topic lessons), Music Gym (3D exercises for ears, technique, theory), Theory & Ear Training (notation and rhythm theory), and Music Factory (deep transcription analysis). This is serious music education, not a hobby course.
- What is Music Factory and why is it so important? — Music Factory is our signature transcription class and the most popular among students. You'll set a goal to learn a song, then transcribe every aspect by ear – notation, chord progressions, rhythm patterns, phrase structure. You'll understand WHY the composer chose each chord, not just WHAT they played. Once you understand the entirety of the song, you can then play it. Or you might just enjoy having analyzed a great piece of music. This develops deep listening, analysis, and transcription skills that make you a true musician.
- Can I bring my own songs to learn? — Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. You bring your favorite songs to class, and we transcribe them together. Whether it's a Bollywood track, a jazz standard, gospel, pop, or classical piece – you'll learn to analyze and play music that matters to you. This makes the learning experience personal and relevant.
- How do the class timings work for different time zones? — We offer flexible scheduling across time zones: weekday early mornings, evenings after office hours, and weekend slots (Saturdays and Sundays). You can choose what works best for your schedule. We have students joining from all over the world – India, Singapore, Europe, U.S. – learning at their convenience.
- What if I miss a class? — Don't worry. Every live session is recorded in HD (almost the same quality as our YouTube videos) and shared privately with you. You'll also receive Jason's handwritten notes, notation, supplementary resources, and practice tracks for every lesson. You can attend live and use the recording for revision, or catch up if you miss a session due to a hectic schedule.
- Is this a graded course? Will there be homework? — Yes, this is a serious graded certificate program. You'll have weekly homework and assignments. You'll send them to Jason, who will listen, provide personalized feedback, and grade your work. This isn't for hobbyists – it's for students who want to become musicians at any age. By the end of the semester, you'll receive a graded certificate from Nathaniel School of Music.
- What are the different package options? — You can choose from 32, 40, 50, or 65-hour packages over a 6-month semester. We bill simply by the number of hours. Pick the package that suits your learning goals and time commitment. All packages include live classes, HD recordings, handwritten notes, notation, supplementary resources, and practice tracks.
- What's the difference between Modular Piano, Music Gym, Theory & Ear Training, and Music Factory? — Modular Piano consists of 2-4 lesson modules focused on specific topics: singing & playing, chord inversions, gospel music, seasonal songs (like Christmas carols). Music Gym offers dedicated 3D exercises to build your ears, technique, and theory with structured practice. Theory & Ear Training classes cover notation, ear training, improvisation, rhythm practice, and staff notation – including rhythm theory, which is often missing from music education. Music Factory is our deep transcription class where you analyze entire songs from notation to chord logic to rhythm structure.
- Do I need prior piano experience? — Yes. This is an intermediate/advanced program, not for absolute beginners. You should be comfortable with basic piano playing, know some chords and scales, and be ready to dive into theory, ear training, and transcription at a deeper level. If you're a foundation graduate, self-taught, or have studied classical piano and want to understand the 'why' behind music, this is perfect for you.
- Do you cover rhythm theory? — Yes! Unlike most courses, we teach rhythm as theory – a complete system often missing from music education. You'll learn Konnakol (South Indian rhythmic patterns), Afro-Cuban rhythms, complex metres (7/8, 5/8), irregular groupings, and syncopation. Rhythm is treated as seriously as harmony and melody.
- Do I get a demo session before enrolling? — We don't offer free demo sessions before enrollment. However, you can explore Jason's teaching style from our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCI37YB3l21oq_sLoc92YfA?sub_confirmation=1) or the free tutorials on our website (https://www.nathanielschool.com/free-tutorials). These will give you a clear idea of the quality and depth of our teaching.
